Meet Shara

Editor, writer, and storyteller

My work with authors

I’ve been working in writing and editing since 2000, and in that time I’ve collaborated on everything from novels and memoirs to nonfiction manuscripts, articles, and business documents. What I love most, though, is helping writers shape their work into stories readers want to keep reading. My clients come with different voices and different goals, but they share one thing: a commitment to making their writing the best it can be. Supporting them in that mission is what keeps me excited to sit down at my desk every day.

My editing approach

I’m both a writer and an editor, and I see those roles as deeply connected. Editing, to me, isn’t about stripping away a writer’s style—it’s about strengthening it. I focus on clarity, flow, and engagement so your story lands the way you intended, without losing the spark that makes it yours.

Professional background

Over the years, I’ve built a foundation in journalism, creative writing, and instructional design. That breadth of experience gives me a flexible perspective when I’m working across genres. My formal training includes:

  • Master of Arts in Creative Nonfiction (in progress) — University of King’s College

  • Master of Arts in Creative Writing (Distinction) — Kingston University

  • Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design — Royal Roads University

  • Bachelor of Journalism — Kwantlen Polytechnic University

  • Bachelor of Arts in English — Thompson Rivers University

  • Certificate in Professional Editing Standards (pending) — Queen’s University

What I write

When I’m not editing, I write. My work includes nonfiction about food, culture, and sustainability, alongside fiction projects and essays. Writing keeps me close to the challenges my clients face, and it helps me bring empathy and insight to the editorial process.

Where I live

I’m based in Western Canada, where I divide my time between editing, writing, and teaching. Away from the desk, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen experimenting with seasonal cooking, or outdoors enjoying the prairie or mountain landscapes.
